While I firmly believe that different systems work for different people (there is no “best” solution!), these are my faves that I use on the regular and keep coming back to time and time again.

The very first thing I do when creating or optimizing a business system is to write out what I’m already doing.

What’s the existing process?

This piece of the puzzle is critical to complete before even considering optimization. You don’t know what you don’t know and I would bet that there are wayyyy more steps to each of your processes than you think once you get them all out of your brain. L

If you don’t have your current business processes outlined or documented, then what do you do when it’s time to apply those systems?

Are you remembering every step in sequence?
Are you missing steps and wasting time to course correct when you realize?
Are you reinventing the wheel and coming up with a new process every time?

If you don’t document and follow the process you do have, how do you know you’re following it every time?

And if you’re not following the same framework, how can you objectively identify weak spots or opportunities for improvement?

Don’t document your processes the “next time” you’re doing them.

Pick one thing you do regularly or often in your biz, set aside some time, grab a pen and paper or open up your digital notebook of choice and document each step as if you were actually completing that process.

That’s it. That’s the first step.
